"Icarus"
i kissed the sun
i felt it.
i was given wings
and i jumped.
but now
i bore a thousand warnings
of what happens when you fly too fast
too far
too frenzied
too careless
too close to the sun.
but let me tell you a secret
i am no cautionary tale.
i flew
and i kissed the sky.
i knew the stars
not as dreams, but as friends.
i burned
and i burned brightly.
i lived
and then i died.
life is not lost if it’s lived.
the grass has felt your tears
and your footsteps.
caught your fallen dreams
let you peacefully roam.
the grass is plentiful
it is kind.
the sky burns
it melts me away.
but before i was nothing.
if for that i must fall
then fall i must.
but i touched the sun
and you could too.
i kissed the sun
i felt it.
i was given wings
and i jumped.
but now
i bore a thousand warnings
of what happens when you fly too fast
too far
too frenzied
too careless
too close to the sun.
but let me tell you a secret
i am no cautionary tale.
i flew
and i kissed the sky.
i knew the stars
not as dreams, but as friends.
i burned
and i burned brightly.
i lived
and then i died.
life is not lost if it’s lived.
the grass has felt your tears
and your footsteps.
caught your fallen dreams
let you peacefully roam.
the grass is plentiful
it is kind.
the sky burns
it melts me away.
but before i was nothing.
if for that i must fall
then fall i must.
but i touched the sun
and you could too.
